M2M

Acronym for: Machine to machine



MAC Address

The 48-bit address used in Ethernet to identify a station. Generally a unique number that is programmed into a device at time of manufacture.


Macrobend

A noticeable bend of deviation beyond the critical angle of the fiber axis from a straight line, causing loss of light and subsequent signal attenuation.


Macrocell

Cellular Tower with large coverage area.


Main Distribution Frame (MDF)

A signal distribution frame for connecting equipment (inside plant) to cables and subscriber carrier equipment (outside plant). The MDF is a termination point within the local telephone exchange where exchange equipment and terminations of local loops are connected by jumper wires at the MDF. Also known as Main Frame.



Manageable Hubs

Another definition for intelligent hubs. Each of the ports on the managed hub can be configured, monitored and enabled or disabled by a network operator from a hub management console.



MAPOS

Acronym for: Frame-mapped multiple access protocol over SDH


Maximum Time Interval Error (MTIE)

A measure of the worst case phase variation of a signal with respect to a perfect signal over a given period of time. It is used to specify clock stability requirements in telecommunications standards.




MBaud

Acronym for: Megabaud

A symbol rate in telecommunications that equals to one million baud.




MBR

Acronym for: Maximum bit rate


MC
