The Story behind the Videos

Over the past years, EXFO’s experts have been working closely with mobile network operators and their contractors to help them deploy a new breed of fiber networks: FTTA. We noticed that the same issues kept popping up. More often than not, deployments were plagued by wrongly connected SFP transceivers into the RRU or at the base station, corrupted connector endfaces or compliance issues–all mostly due to a generalized lack of experience in dealing with fiber for most field technicians coming from a copper and RF background.

This led us to team up with network installation specialists (NIS), a major contractor in the US southeast. We went all the way to Georgia to spend a full day with Josh and Jerry and meet their tower crew as they walked us through their daily tasks. Our mission: to capture a real-life FTTA situation that demonstrates the challenges they face, the best testing practices and the value of standardized test methods.
