Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting


Monitoring certifies a consistently high QoSPlanned or unplanned, maintenance is how network operators can ensure a consistently high quality of service. Over time, optical parameter values may be altered because of fiber handling and the environment. Network synchronization must constantly be monitored to minimize data loss through excessive pointer adjustments, and network elements need to be verified periodically for faults and alarms.

When a problem occurs or when maintenance is scheduled, a number of tools can be used, depending on whether the testing is done on the fiber, on the transmission equipment or on the optical, transport, datacom or application layer.
