Copper Pair Qualification for SHDSL Service

For service providers delivering high-speed communication offerings to business and small-office home-office (SOHO) customers, a symmetrical high-speed digital subscriber line or SHDSL is a common choice. And for good reason. Considering its greater reach, lower power and application flexibility versus other access technologies, it’s not only a common choice but a good one.  

As with any technology, operators need to ensure that they properly evaluate a circuit’s ability to support a SHDSL service. Analog measurements must be run and compared against specific thresholds, a TDR measurement must be made on the length of the copper pairs and finally, if repeaters are used on a line to extend reach, specific tests must also be done. Lots to think about, lots to do.

Getting it all done efficiently and being able to collect and export all that gathered data can be challenging for technicians in the field.
